In the summer of 2013 the Women Making a Difference project selected a group of promising young people who were looking to take their volunteering to the next level to participate in a new and innovative programme. We trained over 15 young people aged between 18 and 25 in the skills and knowledge required to become Board Members or Trustees.

This project, jointly funded by GwirVol and British Council Wales was open to young people from all over Wales, and our participants came from places including Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Milford Haven, Port Talbot and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Did you know that only 2% of charity trustees in the UK are under the age of 24? Well this programme is hoping to both challenge and change this statistic. We are now matching participants with some great mentors in organisations such as Sport Wales, Chwarae Teg, and The Wallich.

Keep visiting this page where you can find out more about the project, learn about the experiences of our participants as they spend time role shadowing some of the fantastic Boards taking part and maybe learn about how you could become a Trustee or Board Member too.

Youth on Boards training sessions

The majority of the training programme was held at the prestigious Wales Millennium Centre – who were wonderful sponsors to the programme. In addition to this lovely musical venue, where we also had the opportunity to meet the Touch Trust, a charity based at the WMC, participants were treated to a backstage tour, as well as a visit over to the Senedd and Pierhead hosted by the National Assembly Outreach Team.
